Purpose:
Cultural Assets Rehabilitation Project
The Cultural Assets Rehabilitation Project is processed as a Learning and Innovation Loan to support the Government of Eritrea's cultural asset rehabilitation and conservation agenda with regard to capacity building, increasing sources of growth, and human resources development The project aims to test out and develop means for more fully integrating the conservation and management of Eritrea's cultural assets into local and national economic development The project consists of four components: 1) The site planning, conservation, and museum development component will focus on developing pilot community-based and growth oriented conservation activities at historic sites around Qohaito and Asmara This component will also strengthen the National Museum of Eritrea by upgrading and improving its facilities and establishing linkages through specialized program with educational institutions 2) The second component will focus on conserving the built environment especially the unique architectural heritage of Asmara It will support enterprise development; improve the delivery of community and public services; and support training and capacity building 3) The support living cultures component will provide support for the development of language, literature, and history and for strengthening Eritrea's rich oral traditions, in particular poetry and storytelling 4) The documentation and information management component will support to establish a national Archival System
Cultural Heritage Project
The Cultural Heritage Project aims to help Mauritania test appropriate methods to determine how to safeguard and enhance its cultural heritage The project has three components The first finances research preservation (museums, manuscripts), rehabilitates buildings and sites, and affords training in preservation architecture and archives The project supports the conservation and valorization of cultural heritage assets through restoration and preservation of archaeological and historic sites, ancient manuscripts and libraries The second component promotes cultural heritage developing the craft and tourism industries It contributes to the revitalization of economic activity in these areas by creating small scale enterprises and by capitalizing on tourism potential Moreover, popular events such as music festivals, presentations of oral traditions, poetry contests, and traditional dance exhibitions may be held and, together with the production and sale of artisanal objects, could provide important and sustainable links between cultural preservation and income generation The third component, the cultural heritage management component, establishes an appropriate institutional and financial framework to elaborate the cultural heritage strategy and operationalize it
