      After the fire of 6 November 1995, that ravaged the Musée du Palais de la Reine, 1971 objects were recovered and deposited in another historic building 100 m to the north, which is serving as a temporary museum, called Musée du Palais d'Andafiavaratra.

      As a history museum, the Musée du Palais d'Andafiavaratra houses objects belonging to the kings and queens of Madagascar, the history of the Palace, the Malagasy royalty of the 18th and 19th centuries, the earliest diplomatic relationships with the outside world and Madagascar, the cultural evolution and history of the country. The recovered collections consist of: 57% metal objects, 10% paintings, 5% glass, 5% wooden objects, and the rest are ceramics, textiles, paper, leather and hide.
