      The Department of Arts and Crafts was established in 1973, then known as Cultural Affairs Department, to preserve, promote and present Malawi's cultrural heritage. Since then, it has collected and presented material ranging from literature, artifacts, finding tools, films/video tapes, photographs, brochures, records, papers etc. in the field of music, theatre, literacy works, visual arts, folklore and many others dealing with culture. The establishment has research, Administration, Library, Arts and Crafts sections. It also has a 40 member National Dance Troupe for cultural outreach and awareness programmes. It is currently in the process to constructing a national cultural centre.
